Cylinders Quality Management

Course Overview:

In today’s environment, cylinder engraving processes should be simpler not more complicated. Learn how to "un-complicate” the cylinder engraving process from de-chrome to final print production at customer end. In order to compete in the market and meet the customer demands of high quality print, we design this training as an introduction to cylinder quality management, suitable for anyone involved in the rotogravure printing industry including sales, customer service, administration, marketing, etc.. This one day training addresses various topics through hands-on activities accompanied with presentations and discussion and you will learn to recognize the pitfalls, avoid common mistakes and develop procedures to achieve consistent and repeatable results on every cylinder, every press run by using some innovative techniques.

Training Benefits:

  • Understanding the basics steps involve in the cylinder preparation and electroplating to engrave high quality cylinders.
  • Better understanding and measuring the actual opening, depth and cell volume on copper, and subsequently chrome cells, to control quality and consistency during the manufacturing process.
  • Better visualizing and measuring in detail the performance of the engraving process to further improve quality consistency.
  • Understanding the best storage and environmental condition for maintaining the quality of cylinders.
  • Better understanding the effects of engraving cell depth, cell wall, cell angle and composition of cylinder in printing.
  • Better understanding of cell specifications (Stylus, Angle, Wall, Channel, Line Screen) and Moiré Effect and impact on print quality.
  • Understanding of cylinders related defects, stylus broken, shoe lines, cell depth variation, cell missing, thundering, centre out pin holes, bludges, patches, machine hang out etc. with possible causes and solutions.
  • Understanding the effects of ink formulation, substrate and doctor blades angle and composition on engraved cylinders performance during production run.
