BRC GLOBAL STANDARD FOR PACKAGING MATERIALS- ISSUE –6

COURSE OVERVIEW:
A safely packaged food supply of food and other hygiene sensitive products is essential for sustaining humanity and quality of human life. The packaging materials for food and non-food products supply must not endanger consumer health through physical, biological, and chemical contaminants and it must ensure that the desirable characteristics of product inside it are retained throughout the production, transportation, handling, processing, packaging, and distribution. This 2-days in-depth course has been designed to enable delegates to gain a full understanding of the requirements of Issue 6 and emphasizes clear communication of packaging materials safety quality and authenticity concepts, hazards, preventive measures, auditing, legal compliance, effective use of corrective action, and follow-up to ensure successful attainment of company business including preparation, the audit, nonconformities, corrective actions and BRCGS’s certification.

TRAINING CONTENTS:

  • BRCGS –Issue 6 introduction, scope of standards, packaging legislations, benefits of standards, audit pre-requisites, contents, basic packaging materials safety, quality, authenticity and legislative requirements of the packaging manufacturer/supplier.
  • Hazard and risk management, risk management system, risk analysis principles, HARA, codes of practice, legislative requirements, composition and origin(e.g. raw materials, inks, varnishes, coatings and other print chemicals).
  • Product safety and quality management, Document control, Record-keeping, Specifications, Internal audits, Corrective and preventive action, Supplier approval and performance monitoring, Product authenticity, claims and chain of custody, Management of subcontracted activities and outsourced processes, Management of suppliers of services, Traceability, Complaint-handling, Management of product withdrawals, incidents and product recalls.
  • Site standards, external standards, raw materials handling, preparation, processing, packing and storage areas, Utilities, Site security and product defence, Layout, product flow and segregation, Equipment, Maintenance, Housekeeping and cleaning, Product contamination control, Waste and waste disposal, Pest management.
  • Product and process control, Product development, Graphic design and artwork control, Packaging print control, Process control, Calibration and control of measuring and monitoring devices, Product inspection, testing and measuring, Control of non-conforming product, Incoming goods, Storage of all materials and intermediate and finished products, Dispatch and transport.

  • Describe auditing fundamentals, steps and  techniques, Preparation for an audit, Undertake an audit, 
  • Assess compliance to the requirements of the Standard and explain how compliance can be demonstrated to maintain safety, quality, legality, and authenticity of packaging materials.
  • Able to implement the good manufacturing practices, pre-requests and implementation in the packaging materials manufacturing workplace.
  • Describe steps to conduct a BRCGS audit including the preparation, planning, and reporting of the audit and resourcing tools available for compliance and beneficial support from BRCGS
  • Enhance participants’ understanding of process and risk-based metric driven auditing designed to meet internal, and customer requirements. 
  • Develop or sharpen practical audit skills such as interviewing, documenting objective evidence, traceability, re-call and record keeping and implementing corrective & preventive action programs to reduce risk and drive improvement.

This course is part of the BRCGS Professional recognition programme and a good technical knowledge of the packaging industry is essential.
